Waste Management Policy
1. Purpose and Scope
This policy sets out Purple Frog’s approach to waste management for all properties under our care. It is intended for tenants, neighbours, council representatives, and our staff. Our aim is to promote safe, hygienic, and environmentally responsible waste disposal, supporting the wellbeing of both residents and the wider community.
2. Our Commitment
We are committed to ensuring that waste is managed in line with local regulations, environmental best practices, and tenancy obligations. We encourage everyone to take responsibility for keeping shared spaces, streets, and gardens free from litter and waste.
3. Waste Disposal Guidelines
3.1 General Waste and Recycling
All waste must be separated into the appropriate bins provided for general waste, recycling, and food waste, following the relevant council’s instructions.
3.2 Bin Storage and Collection
Bins should be stored neatly in designated areas. They must be placed out for collection on the correct day and returned promptly to avoid causing obstruction or nuisance.
3.3 Bagging and Securing Waste
All waste must be securely bagged to prevent leaks, odours, and pests. Loose waste should never be placed directly into bins.
3.4 Bulky or Hazardous Waste
Bulky items such as furniture, mattresses, or electrical goods must not be left in communal areas or on the street. These should be disposed of via the council’s bulky waste service or a licensed waste carrier.
4. Preventing Waste Problems
4.1 Clear Information
All tenants receive guidance on waste disposal at the start of their tenancy, including links to council resources and collection timetables.
4.2 Community Responsibility
We ask all residents and staff to report overflowing bins, illegal dumping, or other waste issues promptly so they can be addressed.
5. Addressing Non-Compliance
If waste is not managed correctly, we will contact the responsible party to resolve the issue. Where non-compliance continues or the matter is serious, we may follow our Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Policy, which includes escalation steps such as formal warnings, notifying guarantors or relevant authorities, and taking further action where appropriate. Repeated or serious breaches may also be referred directly to the local authority, which can issue fines or take enforcement action.
6. Supplier Standards
All contractors and suppliers engaged by Purple Frog to remove or dispose of waste must hold the appropriate waste carrier registration and operate in compliance with UK waste management laws. We will verify supplier credentials before engagement and periodically thereafter to ensure ongoing compliance. This helps to prevent fly-tipping and ensures that waste is handled responsibly and legally.
7. Working Together
Effective waste management relies on cooperation between tenants, landlords, neighbours, Purple Frog staff, and local councils. By following this policy, we can maintain clean, safe, and welcoming communities.
